Dr. Serravalle has 19 years experience working across most systems of care. While this experience has offered priceless learning, she has found that in order to align the work she does with her core beliefs about the quality of care for her clients, she inevitably decided to start her own practice. She believes that with a smaller practice there can be the time, attention, intimacy and vulnerability necessary to engage in a truly profound therapy process.
Dr. Serravalle's approach to therapy has evolved over the years with education and experience. She views each individual’s experiences to be unique and therefore feels the therapeutic relationship is the essential beginning in the foundation of the journey. Therapy is a collaborative process that is engaged in between a provider and client. Therefore, her approach is holistic but is amalgamated with mindfulness based practices, compassion focused therapy, sensory awareness and body movement therapy. However, she still holds onto aspects of her foundation in behavioral therapy with accountability, motivation and respecting the process of change. She views the therapeutic concerns contextually considering family history, developmental stages, relational influences, medical history, motivational factors and barriers to treatment. She comes from a strength-based approach where the focus is on establishing protective factors, support networks and being an advocate for interpersonal effectiveness. Dr. Serravalle feels therapy is an active process and incorporates aspects of role playing, art therapy, guided visualization and narrative therapy into her work.
Dr. Serravalle is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) through the International Association of Trauma Professionals. She has advanced training in Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
